About the Builder

Hi, I’m Nick. The creator and curator of Prairie Skies.

I’ve been in construction for 37 years working as a carpenter and during that time, I’ve been privileged to work on so many interesting projects which has provided a varied education in building styles and construction methods. I’ve also had the privilege of being entrusted with customers visions and helping to turn those ideas and dreams in to their reality.

Helping people to improve the way they live and how they move around their homes has always been the biggest reward for me and throughout the journey of doing that, I have been fortunate enough to make some life long friends too. So why start making wagons for people to vacation in?

Having made the kitchen wagon for Maddie over at Camp Mela which is just next door, I found myself with the ideal opportunity to transition from the usual building sites to creating beautiful ‘living wagons’ that people could stay in to recharge, feel refreshed and leave with some lasting, magical memories!

Meeting and greeting folk is so important to me! I love showing people around the site and explaining how the concept arrived… exactly how it all came to be. Its great to be able to share this beautiful corner of the world with people and share the endless list of beautiful places to visit around the area too.

Inside and outside of the wagons you will find many repurposed treasures too. Basically a huge collection of finds gathered over many years. There are so many items that finally have a home.. so many things that I often kept, not knowing why I but I knew that one day, they would look splendid in the right setting! So using these treasures in the wagons has been so brilliant.

A lot of thought has gone into using local timber supplies to cut down on transportation where ever possible too - being ethical is of huge importance to me.

Electricity to power the site where needed comes from the purpose built off grid solar system and I build the wagons in a barn workshop on site which I am always happy to show people when they are here.

Since the site has been open, being able to share the site, the workshop and the wagons with people has meant that I have taken on commissions to create these beautiful spaces for customers to there own unique spec or in some cases, I have been given license to be creative which is just a joy!

If you want to know more, do get i’m touch… I am always happy to chat and share more.

Nick.
